LA MÚSICA CALLADA

David y Diego son los únicos monjes católicos bizantinos de Sudamérica. Sus días transcurren en un monasterio que fundaron hace poco tiempo en un paraje seco y aislado de la provincia de Buenos Aires, y que aún están construyendo. David pinta iconos, y Diego traduce textos cristianos del griego y del ruso al castellano. Ambos pertenecen al rito bizantino, emparentado a la tradición del primer cristianismo. El paisaje de la naturaleza, que cada día se filtra por las ventanas de las celdas, marca las horas para cada actividad. De las sierras David extrae los pigmentos con los que pinta sus iconos. Un día esta rutina es alterada por la llegada de un visitante que debido a la sequía de meses, desea pedirles una procesión para rogar por lluvia. Esa misma noche, las voces de los monjes y los cantos de los fieles se confunden con los sonidos de las primeras gotas que comienzan a caer. Al dia siguiente David y Diego dejan el monasterio para retirarse a las sierras. Allí en el paisaje y el silencio abisma el misterio, esta es la partitura de la música callada.

David and Diego are the only Byzantine Catholic monks in South America. Their days pass in a monastery that they founded recently in a dry and isolated place in the province of Buenos Aires, and that they are still building. David paints icons, and Diego translates Christian texts from Greek and Russian into Spanish. Both belong to the Byzantine rite, related to the tradition of early Christianity.
The landscape of nature, which filters through the cell windows every day, marks the hours for each activity. From the mountains David extracts the pigments with which he paints his icons. One day this routine is altered by the arrival of a visitor who, due to the months-long drought, wants to ask them for a procession to pray for rain. That same night, the voices of the monks and the songs of the faithful merge with the sounds of the first drops that begin to fall. The next day David and Diego leave the monastery to retire to the mountains. There in the landscape and the silence abysses the mystery, this is the score of silent music.
